Hey everyone I have a problem with trying to install tor from the Tor Project…after going through the process for installing tor in OpenSUE described on their website I came to running the command “sudo yum install tor” and I ran that and got this:
Setting up Install Process
Resolving Dependencies
→ Running transaction check
—> Package tor.i586 0:0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1 set to be updated
→ Processing Dependency: libevent-1.4.so.2 for package: tor-0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1.i586
—> Package tor.x86_64 0:0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1 set to be updated
→ Finished Dependency Resolution
tor-0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1.i586 from packman has depsolving problems
→ Missing Dependency: libevent-1.4.so.2 is needed by package tor-0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1.i586 (packman)
Error: Missing Dependency: libevent-1.4.so.2 is needed by package tor-0.2.1.30-1.pm.1.1.i586 (packman)
You could try using --skip-broken to work around the problem
You could try running: package-cleanup --problems
package-cleanup --dupes
rpm -Va --nofiles --nodigest
The program package-cleanup is found in the yum-utils package.
I tried to install the latest version of libevent from this website: libevent
but apparently I’m missing the file libevent.a
I would really appreciate any help you could give me. Thanks and have a nice day.
The package libevent-1_4-2 is avialble in the standard repos. Why do you
need libevent.a? Your installation process complained about missing
libevent-1.4.so.2 which is in the package mentioned above.

tor is available in packman. Why do you not simply install it with yast?

…to your first post: Maybe because I was unaware of that little fact?
and to the part about tor…I tried that and it wouldn’t install. I kept getting an error message…though I’ll try again, and on the incredibly small chance that it works, I’ll let you know and if not, I’ll tell you what the error message says…
Oh also I forgot to mention as for why I need libevent.a, according to a file, I got from a link on the tor website I need that file in libevent to be able to install tor…and I don’t have it.
Okay I tried to install tor through packman, again, and couldn’t even find it…which is a completely new problem.
Okay I found tor in packman and will now, try to install it…again.

and @AgoristTeen1994, you didn’t actually install yum, did you?
i ask because yum is the Red Hat/Fedora software package manager…it
will do a very poor job of managing your software on openSUSE, as
will also apt, the Debian/*buntu package manager…
highly recommend you use YaST or zypper…
and, a little fireside reading might save you a lot of wasted motion and
