Tomcat 6 Admin Application

Does anyone have instructions on how to get the admin application up and running? It used to ship with Tomcat by default. Now with version 6 they do not include it in the RPMs.

I could try to download the binary from 5.5.28 off of the tomcat web site. However, 6.0 has a different directory structure compared to 5.5.

Tomcat is running fine. I can view the manager, docs, and examples web applications. I had a hell of a time figuring out how to get the web server started because there were no instructions.

/etc/init.d/tomcat6 start

Did you try installing tomcat6-admin-webapps?

Yes, but that merely installs the manager and host manager applications. I’ve installed everything tomcat within Yast.

If I navigate to http://localhost:8080/admin I get this message:

Tomcat’s administration web application is no longer installed by default. Download and install the “admin” package to use it.

However, there’s no place on the Tomcat 6 web site that provides a link for the admin application.

What’s this administration web application supposed to do?

PS: A search shows that you probably have to use a text editor now.

Download the admin.war from the link below and deploy it with the Tomcat manager.
