On 9/25 I had this same problem and wrongly assumed I had caused it by changing the kde icon set as it worked again after I reverted back to a Breeze set. What really fixed it was the Mesa drivers got updated during that session and fixed it. But today the Mesa driver were updated again during zypper dup. As soon as the update completed successfully the system locked up except you could still move the pointer but nothing worked. Manually resetting the PC brought it to the ol’ black screen with mouse pointer. Other Mesa updated have caused problems with Chromium based browser requiring me to delete the contents of their shadercache folder and/or turning off hardware acceleration.
My video is the stock Intel 630 IGPU. I know many other have had the Mesa driver/Chromium problem but this is twice now that the Mesa driver updates have Borked my system.
Any ideas?
Thanks
Do you use packman? A wild mixture of package versions from packman and openSUSE can cause this. Make sure that you either habe all mesa packages from packman or openSUSE repos…
Yes I did have Packman enabled so I disabled it and ran zypper up again and it did reinstall some of the Mesa stuff but still comes up to black screen and mouse pointer.
I re-enabled Packman abd tried “zypper dup --from Packman --allow-vendor-change” and that fixed it.
