someone pls …
A server is a really generic term …
Think you need to expand this a bit more as in what do you want to serve?
As for desktop neither generally desktops for servers are pointless and just overhead, but some will have them installed for maintenance and then it is more than likely to be very minimal. A server shouldn’t really need x running.
Google will find you 100,000’s of howto’s on servers from ftp, mail, web, file, shell account, network etc…
I need a (storage of file)linux fileserver, i dont have problem in connecting to internet and file sharing and even in installation, making it as a fileserver(linux) all i want for now is having a password when connecting to my linux fileserver

Pls help me where to add or what to add to make that restrictions()()
my connection is server/hub/workstations/ but i want is before the workstion can connect, i need that it must provide first a user and password to connect or even just a password only
Ok, now we are getting more specific but you don’t say what OS your workstations are running, but Windows is probably a good guess.
Look up user “swerdna” on the forum and read the Samba tutorial that’s on his home page, the link is in his signature.
