Hello,
I loaded leap on a laptop however after the install I cannot connect to my home network (Samba) on a separate Linux Machine. Below are my instillation steps and tasks completed after the install.
During Install I disabled the YAST firewall. After the install I confirmed the firewall was not running.
In ETC/Samba.conf I updated the Workgroup to the same as my home network workgroup. After the updates to config I restarted the laptop.
When I open Dolphin and access my network I can see my home network name. However when I try and drill down to my network folders I receive the timeout message.
After receiving the timeout I opened the terminal and pinged my home network IP address. The results were that the IP address was being reached at less than 1MS. However the ping never stopped. The ping would just keeping pinging the same IP address.
Ping will continue until you press your “Ctrl” + “c” keys at the same time. This is normal (this isn’t Windows). You may be coming from a Windows background, I believe, which means you may wish to learn the linux commands and the proper way to use them.
Thank you for the note on the PING. However you did not provide any guidance on how to resolve why Dolphin cannot access my home network with the firewall off. How do I resolve this problem?
Check that the two network daemons are running. Go to Yast ==> System ==> Service manager ==> scroll to smb and to nmb and for each make sure that they are “enabled” and 'active".
