Tidying up the bootup

I am new to openSUSE but must say that I am very impressed. It generally feels more polished than anything I’ve installed, so far.

One thing, however, that isn’t as polished is the entire boot process. From the time I turn on my PC to the time my openSUSE session starts, things look very messy. There is a lot of visual stuff going on. Ubuntu certainly has this down pat; a blank screen that loads beautifully into the session.

  1. Is this just how it is?
  2. How do I change the green loading screen (the one with the icons that load from left to right) so that it looks like my desktop? (This would apply to logging out and logging in, too.)

It sounds like you are using KDE

The green loading ‘splash’ screen is normal

Are you saying you want to have a blank screen or change the splash image to one of your desktop?

Personally, I’d leave it alone.

Too little for my liking. I want more text. >:-)

i agree…at least until you have more experience (otherwise you are as
likely to make your boot prettier (to you) as you are to murder the system…

here is the way Carlos and i like it:

the next time you boot, at the first green screen just start typing

splash=verbose

and what you type will automatically fall into the Boot Options
blank…when finished typing press enter and enjoy the way a computer is
supposed to look when booting…
