I installed Thunderbird 2.0.0.19 today and at first it worked fine. Somewhere along the line it stopped connecting to the mail server and since then I have uninstalled and reinstalled a couple of times including manually deleting some of the left over files but it just does not want to connect. I did realize after a while that it does not ask me for my password.
Any ideas?
Thanks
ps. Not too be funny, but why does Suse 11.0 give me that Vista feeling. It looks pretty but it just seems like everything is a mission to get working.
If Thunderbird worked at all prior to your problem, you shouldn’t assume there is a problem with it now. Sometimes, connections issues are server related. You should have waited a day before you started messing around with stuff.
First of all, I’m waaayyy to impatient to wait a whole day
Secondly, I dual boot so it only takes me a couple of minutes and I can check whether TB on Windows does the same. Which it didn’t, worked 100%
Funnily enough, I tried Evolution after a while and it did the exact same thing. It just never asked me for a password and would just keep coming up with the error saying that the connection timed out. Could it be Suse that’s messing me around? Earlier I had a problem where it would automatically change the settings for my touch pad and as soon as the desktop loaded (worked fine while having to type in username and password) it would freeze. It worked fine the whole morning without me doing anything funny and then all of a sudden it happened.
Any way, should I rather start looking around for a 11.1 DVD or will it just be more of the same?
Does your internet access work at all in opensuse?
To eliminate Thunderbird profile problems, you should rename .thunderbird to .thunderbird.old and then configure your email account again using a fresh profile. Make sure you get your username and password correct. I suggest taking a long hard look at your server settings just to be sure.
Internet works via wired lan (wireless is still another story).
By default I disable IPv6 as it always causes problems somewhere along the line.
I already recreated the profile several times and now that I think of it, it only asked for my password in one attempt, but I had to close the window to go copy/paste my password (some stupid random thing I just can’t remember :)) and then I never got asked again.
First thing this morning I thought I would give it another go. This time round I figured there must be some little text file or something lying in the Thunderbird folder that stores the user names and passwords so I scratched around a bit and lo and behold, signons.txt is the one. So I was just about to copy the TB windows file to TB Suse, when I thought I would give it one last go the normal way. It asked me for my password, I pasted it in and voila it’s working.
I definitely think this was one of those “tests” of life things
