Thunderbird - open http/https links..... very strange

Hi all,

pain in the neck issue

I’m using Thunderbird for decades, 115.12.2 now on Leap 15.5 (soon 15.6 :))

For a NVR I UNFORTUNATELY need also MS EDGE on my OpenSUSE box. I apologize, but chinese manufacturer, and although they’re pretty good in Linux (Kylin) , their NVR’s and netcam’s web interface rely on MS Egde and only MS Edge and nothing else than MS Edge.

Since I installed MS Egde (took the rpm from their repo), Thunderbird open all links in email (http/https) in EDGE and not anymore in Firefox, NOT what I want.

Unfortunately bloody sticky error:

  • In “settings” everything (html doc, http and https links have been (still) set to “open with Firefox (default)”: ignored, opened in EDGE

Found here in Forum a 2011 topic about howto switching from firefox to chrome inside Thunderbird, there was a hint to set to “Ask always”

  • after having done this and clicking on e.g. a https link in an email, NOTHING happens after the FIRST click. And if I click for the 2nd time, https setting is “automatically” set back to “open with Firefox (default)”… and link is opened in EDGE… again :frowning:

Any hints, ideas would be highly welcome, bug report is also there, but seems that there are more important topics, comprehensible

[WORKAROUND FOUND]

As “open with Firefox (default)” doesn’t work, as written, just found somewhere a hint that you also always can set a whatever to be opened app, manually. Offering you the in my case KDE/Plasma menu tree. Selecting “Internet”/“Firefox” there, I now have a new entry “open with Firefox” WITHOUT the “(default)” extension, and this option now it WORKS again.

Whyever
