Thunderbird filtering.

I’m trying a filter in Thunderbird, for nntp folders. I have it applied
to the account parent folder instead (the one that gets the name of the
nntp account) so that it affects every folder below it. It does work
fine when new posts arrive, but I can’t run it manually on them, it does
not give any error but it doesn’t change any message.

And yes, it is defined to run in both cases.

Apparently, to have the filter really run now, I have to open the filter
dialog, and change the “Run selected filter(s) on” in the drop-down list
to each of the individual folders, then click apply, then change to the
next folder… etc, one by one. Then set it up back to apply on the
account so that it works on any incoming message.

The run filter now does not work on the parent nntp folder.

i have been completely mystified trying to figure out how the filtering
works…sometimes it does exactly as i expect, sometimes it pretends to
do something, but does not…

you closer to understanding than i did.

Indeed…

Hah!

Well, I forced it to run on each folder of the forum, but I had to do it
one by one… at least the dialog did not close, it was just a bunch of
repeated keystrokes.

I do not understand it… I simply understood the loop I had to go round
to do it. Once. Next time I have to do the filter before it fetches the
posts, so that all are filtered as they are fetched.
