Thunderbird extensions will not install

A previous version of Thunderbird had extensions Simple Mail Redirection and Remove Duplicate Messages. They both disappeared from the latest version, 140.12.0esr. When I try to install either of them, clicking the Add to Thunderbird button does nothing. When I download the xpi file and try Install add-on from file, again nothing happens.
How can I install these two?
Thanks,
Howard

There are a lot of reports that it does not work.

https://addons.thunderbird.net/en-US/thunderbird/addon/removedupes/?src=search states:

  • Version 0.6.7.1 [Info]
  • Last Updated: Sept. 5, 2026

Ok. Fancy that Mozilla/Thunderbird uses two different websites…

I restarted Thunderbird in Troubleshooting mode, and it let the extensions install. Back in normal mode they work. Solved.

Please note that Thunderbird ESR has not been updated since June.

The easiest thing to do is to uninstall the ad hoc RPM and replace it with the current archive (which can be used in portable mode after being uncompressed) which can be downloaded from: www.thunderbird.net/en-US/download/esr

→ still in Extended Support Release version (do not confuse it with the other 3 available versions)
