Thunderbird a message is visible on Leap 15.3 but not shown in TW

I am running Leap 15.3 on HP workstation which has Thunderbird 91.12.0 (64-bit) installed and TW on Lenovo W530 laptop which has Thunderbird 102.1.2 (64-bit) installed. Both installed by normal update process.

I often switch between machines depending on my location but expect the email messages to be consistent on both machines and had assumed this was the case until Saturday when an email message which had been on the laptop and I had read earlier vanished from the laptop.

I went to the workstation and the message is still in the Inbox where it should be so went back to laptop and searched, assuming I had inadvertently deleted it or moved it. I couldn’t find it anywhere obvious so did a search using the title and ran the search across all folders.
The message was found showing it was in the Inbox and I could open it from the found screen but the message is not showing in the Inbox folder when I look there.

Does anybody know of any switch or flag setting somewhere which has been incorrectly flipped and does anybody else have a similar problem?

I do not know anything of the innards of T’Bird but as far as I am concerned this is a serious problem because I have no idea what messages are being lost and we use email for business.
Grateful for any help please.

For each folder Thunderbird keeps (locally) a list of the messages in that folder (*.msf files). These lists can get corrupted.

To repair the list for a specific folder do

  1. select the folder
  2. press the right mouse button on the selected folder to get to the context menu
  3. select “Properties” from that menu (this will open a new window)
  4. in that window press the “Repair Folder” button

The list for the selected folder will be regenerated (depending on the number of messages in that folder this can take quite a while).

Many thanks. That did the trick. I would never have found it myself so thanks once more.
