Hello,
My upgrade from 11.1 to 11.2 was fine, but the new Thunderbird 3 beta that replaces my 11.1 Thunderbird 2 seems to have some issues.
First problem: I was forced to lose my passwords.
Thunderbird 3 asked me for a master password I have never used before.
Unable to discover this unknown password, I was forced to erase and lose my standard passwords configuration.
Second problem: My “Local Folders” folder has become unreachable.
I can’t browse the folder and its sub-folders anymore.
I can’t make a new created account to use “Local Folders” as root folder.
The accounts configuration dialog box even freezes on the account tab if it’s configured to save some messages in the “Local Folders”.
Thunderbird 3 has indexed all my messages during its first start, so I can still find mail saved in the “Local Folders” tree, but with keywords search only.
I hope I solved the problem by copying the files manually into another account’s sub-folder, but like many people I used this tree before to dispatch messages from my mail accounts with filter rules all broken now…
I would also add to this that when I click on hyperlinks embedded in email messages in Thunderbird 3 b4, nothing really happens, Firefox does not open, nothing. I even installed Thunderbird 2 from repositories/mozilla/openSUSE_11.2/ but that did not help either.
B2 might have messed with config files, luckily thunderbird 3 final is supposed to come out real soon.
It might fix issues, it might cause issues… who knows, not me, I never lost control.
You’re face, to face with the man who sold the world
There is now talk of a further beta before they even hit the release candidate cycle so probably still a month away at least - but probably more like next year before we see TB3.
Is the recommendation then to stick with TB 2.x and avoid the beta? I’m a bit surprised that the beta was included in 11.2, especially if the upgrade from TB 2 is not straightforward. Any experiences with IMAP?
