Using OpenSuse 11.3
I noticed that the thumbnail directory (.thumbnails ) has grown to over 1 gig.
Is there a system setting to limit the size?
Can files in that directory (and subdirectories) be safely deleted manually?

AFAIK, yes.

It can definitely be deleted manually with no risk, but I have not heard about limiting the size of ~/.thumbnails in a convenient way. It’s probably not too easy as it is used by many applications, different desktop environments etc. One thing I know is: you can set Gwenview to empty ~/.thumbnails when quitting it.
Hi
If it’s gnome, fire up gconf-editor and search on thumbnail_cache here you can set the age and size
Thankyou… the Gwenview option is the best for me because if dumps the entire thumbnail directory, no matter what program put it there.
