Tumbleweed is alaways based on latest release, that being now 11.4
It will be based on 12.1 after its release.
At that point you will need to change your Tumbleweed repos to point to
12.1 Tumbleweed.
At least so far that has been the policy.

Once 12.1 is release proper you will just need to change your repos and ‘dup’
Could be that even that will not be necessary:
Somewhere on the mailinglists I have read a statement some time ago Tumbleweed will be a full featured repository not just as now an additional above latest release?
That kind of change would mean:
Once a “zypper dup” (step from release to Tumbleweed), but subsequently only “zypper up” required.
Also Greg K-H as the maintainer of this repository could act more independently - such accidents as with systemd wouldn’t occure any more.
I read this too. A single, version independent, repo for Tumbleweed.
That sounds really good . If this happens i can stop using 11.4 or 12.1 repos for php, perl, python and other things that are not present in Tumbleweed at the moment.
That’s not what I meant. You still would have to add these repos, if you really need them. AFAIU, you’d have to switch to 12.1 repos for the patterns mentioned. If you want packages to be part of Tumbleweed, you can make a request for that. There’s a thread in the Tumbleweed subforums to submit package requests.
Can you give the link?
D-a-m-n i will have a lot of requests

Where did you see that stated?
It is completely incorrect.

You don’t want me acting more “independently” than I already am.
And systemd was not an “accident”, and being a separate entire distro repo
would not have caused that issue from happening. In fact, it would have
caused MORE problems.
So again, Tumbleweed is always just an add-on repo for the base openSUSE
release.

Where will the 12.1 repo link info be posted, so that the 11.4 distro repos can be updated to the 12.1 repos?
Can the 12.1 beta use the Tumbleweed repo to stay up-to-date, or would it be best to wait and preform a fresh install of the final 12.1 release, then add the Tumbleweed repo?
Wait
The repos will be available in due time
I understand they are not available now, just wanting to know where we can find them when they are ready, thank you.
Is it possible to add the Tumbleweed repo to the 12.1 beta release and keep it rolling?

No. It won’t work.
Tumbleweed is always based on the latest release
which, at the moment is 11.4.
If you keep updating your 11.4 Tumbleweed system from 11.4 Tumbleweed
repos it will get closer and closer to 12.1 and finally it will be the same.
When 12.1 then is released there will be 12.1 Tumbleweed repos, not
before. And Tumbleweed will roll towards the next release.

Close, but not quite.
The Tumbleweed repo will stay in the same location, it will just be based
off of 12.1 instead of 11.4. So nothing needs to be changed there at
all, it’s up to me to handle the packages properly.
I’d recommend pointing your 11.4 repo to the “current” repo, so when 12.1
comes out, everything, including Tumbleweed, will update properly with no
problems.
Hope this helps,

OK. I think this has been adjusted a bit from the early days of Tmbleweed?

Should’t there be a /update/current then, so one can even point update to current - or is update not needed at all with tumbleweed?
EDIT: And what about source? Shouldnt there be a /source/current?

Nope, it’s always been this way, I am totally confused as to why people
think otherwise.

Yes, there should be an /update/current, I suggest filing a bug so that
it gets created.
And yes, update is required when running Tumbleweed, it’s essential if
you want to keep up to date with security and other bugfixes.
thanks,

Personally i will have to add a lot more 12.1 repos after it becomes the latest stable release. Some repo
s like perl, php or python don`t have a Tumbleweed repo… hope they get created in the future.
Good news… Tumbleweed will require its current users to make one manual change to the repositories upon the 12.1 release. After which, the openSUSE servers will automatically handle the required changes upon a new release, transparent to the users. Thanks to all for making it so!
