Three problems

  1. all of the konqueror icons in the dash bar have a T prepended to the website icon how can I remove it?

  2. kmail dies unexpectedly with certain letter combinations usually i and another letter. This also happens when I am emailing from a konqueror session also.

  3. no sound from the desktop although foxfire and some other applications have good sound.

Oops I am on SUSE 11.0, Kde 4.1.1 (release 32.3), Konqueror 4.1.2, and kmail 1.10.1

sorry about that.

Reads like a codec problem. Do you get sound from the sound test?
speaker-test -Dplug:front -c2 -l5 -twav
if that works, then this could be a codec problem. Note openSUSE media players are deliberately crippled by Novell/SuSE-GmbH for proprietary codecs. If you wish to play multimedia that uses proprietary codecs, you need to replace the Novell/SuSE-GmbH packaged media players with players from 3rd party packagers. I recommend packman as your source.

More specifically, I recommend you setup your Software Package Manager’s repositories with 4 and only 4 repositories. That is OSS, Non-OSS, Update and Packman. Just those 4. No others. None. When you learn more about the risks associated with using other repositories, you can add others. But not until then. There is guidance for setting up those 4 repos here:
Repositories/11.0 - openSUSE-Community

Once those 4 repos (and only those 4, remove any others for now), are setup, then you can remove xine-lib (if installed) and replace any non-packman libffmpeg0 with the packman packaged libffmpeg0. Also then install smplayer, MPlayer, libxine1, xine-ui, libffmpeg0 and vlc, … all from packman.

Typically libffmpeg0 (from Packman) will ensure you have most the codecs that you need installed.

Good luck!

Aren’t you meant to be on holiday? Sheesh… Go and enjoy your
vacation time
