Since that is not really a support question I am going to post that here.
My requirements are a low budget laser printer (with color and duplex
printing) for home use, I do not care about any fancy capabilities to
print photos (for that I have a HP ink jet printer).
My current laser is a HP Colorlaser 1600 which becomes old now and I
want to get rid of the manual duplex print it supports and replace that
by automatic duplex.
The printer so far which comes nearest to what I have in mind is the
mentioned Dell 2150cdn. http://tinyurl.com/7tpjdaf (in english)
Of course I am open for other suggestions as well esp. HP (price class
for the printer should be less than 300 Euro) of course I care about the
price of cartridges as well, for that special Dell machine I have found
reasonable priced third party cartridges.
If someone has some first hand experience with that model (with linux in
general or openSUSE esp.) or some other comparable printers I would love
to read them.
Thanks in advance.

Speaking to myself now I tend again to go into the direction of getting
a HP printer - HP LaserJet Pro 400 Color M451dn together with a memory
upgrade from 128M to 384M.
While a few bugs more expensive I could at least find more info that it
will work well with GNU/Linux in all aspects, let’s see what the next
month brings for which I plan the purchase.

i wish i could help you…but, i can’t…i’ve not had a printer for years…
occasionally i ask a friend to print a page or three…i usually need
no more than a dozen a year…and, each year is less–biggest need had
been taxes and concert tickets…and, taxes are going on-line, and
tickets can be scanned off a mobile phone at the box office…so,
consider your needs before you ‘invest’ in a great printer which will do
you great service for ten years! [of course you can always set it next
to the fax and floppy reader you also never use]
I am an old fashioned person, that means I read things on paper and
write my notes into it also old fashioned with a pencil so I print
ebooks (that’s the reason for the duplex) I do not read them in
electronic form or vary rarely. If they are available as printed books I
buy the printed version. For many manuals this is not possible. I also
print everything for the club where my wife is a member (invitations,
letters, forms for members, applications for financial support from
administrative bodies …).
So in total I end up printing roughly the content of a double cartridge
(around 3000 pages) per year.

Hmm, I think I have to come back on that in a few months.
Wife says: No new printer, the old one is good enough, buy a new bed and
new couches before.
After that authoritative advise I have nothing more to say

This is now getting way more expensive than a new printer

but 1) the home hardware will last a LOT longer than the printer
hardware, and 2) in the long run their PPU (price per use) will be far
lower for the sofas and bed…
to calculate the price per use just divide the total cost by the number
of times used!

Agreed and at least the bed will result in a higher fun factor (I stop
at this point).

Surprising, is it not?
How can a sofa cost more than a computer? Anybody can make a sofa in a workshop. Making a
computer from the bare materials takes a huge investment and expertise!
Or… I’m considering a home burglar alarm for some friends. The commercials show a very
affordable monthly fee, but they do not say that the hardware plus installation costs is close
to a thousand euros. (!!!??) That’s a robbery! It is actually way more expensive than the
robberies they had, all together!
(My field is electronics; no way that hardware is that expensive)
