We are using XFCE on Leap 42.1, and have several thin clients that need to login to main computer. This has worked well when we used openSUSE 11.1, 12.3, 13.1, and 13.2. However, on Leap it’s a no-go. XFCE is using LightDM and we do not get a login screen. When I switch Leap to KDM or GDM, we get a login screen, then enter username/password and we end up back at the thin client.
We would really like to use LightDM, if at all possible, but I’ve had a hard time finding pages that explain how to change it’s configuration (I think it has XDMCP disabled). Also, if anyone knows of a site(s) that talk about this, I would appreciate it! I’ve been googling for almost a week, now, and have not yet found the magical incantation…
I’m not set up with a complete test system to verify its instructions, but the instructions for each display manager looks reasonable. Post again if it doesn’t help or you can’t find the config file.
Sorry for the long delay! I’ve been quite busy and finally have some time to get back to this. Since I posted this, the company is falling back to 13.2 until I get this sorted out. When I looked at the test server today, I noticed it was changed to sddm and plasma5 and this does not support XDMCP! So, I switched it to lightdm and xfce (required a reboot, not a restart, to see it), again and enabled remote access in YaST for the desktop manager. The thin clients now see the server, but cannot connect – goes to a black screen for a bit and then back to the thin clients “connections” page. So now it’s just a matter of finding correct setup.
Thanks for your help, it got me pointed in the right direction! I will post the final results if I get it working.
