Theme not Applying in KDE.

I’m running openSUSE 11.1 as a guest in Virtualbox on a Windows XP host. I tried installing openSUSE 11.2 in Virtualbox but the installation process kept crashing.

I’m running kde3, I didn’t install kde4 because I don’t like it. I’ve set my theme style to SGI in kde. The problem is that when I run Yast, the theme defaults to the Plastik theme. Under SLES 10 SP3 I am also using the SGI theme and Yast does not default to the Plastik theme, but takes on the SGI theme.

I’m using the kdm login manager and I’ve set the GUI Style to SGI and the Color Scheme to Blue Slate, but when kdm starts it takes on the Oxygen theme, even though I didn’t install kde4. Also the color scheme is green, white and black. Under SLES 10 SP3 I didn’t have this problem, kdm took on the SGI GUI Style and the Blue Slate color scheme.

Also the fonts in Yast are real tiny in openSUSE 11.1.

The fonts in general look much better in SLES 10 SP3.

How do I make kde in openSUSE 11.1 look like it does in SLES 10 SP3?

Yast runs owned by root. To change it’s style, you’d have to change it for user root:

su -c kcontrol

Now you’re running the KDE Control Centre for user root. Apply the theme you want and Yast will look like it too.

I did run it as root.
