The ugly theme needs to be changed

I’m so-so on it – sometimes I appreciate the simplicity, and it other times I feel its kinda of boring and blah.

Though, I certainly know that many others seem to really like it.

and the Plymouth theme, which is the wallpaper but animated.
Umm, unless I’m missing something, the 13.1 plymouth theme isn’t animated at all but is just a static image … I much preferred the earlier openSUSE releases which used (for lack of better description) the (actually) animated “fireflies” plymouth theme.

You didn’t miss, it’s not really animated but does fades in, and out on shutdown. I thought the only reason for having plymouth was the animated splash (e.g. “fireflies” on 12.2). Perhaps animation was considered unnecessary with the faster boots of 12.3/13.1/Tumbleweed, and shorter presence of the splash .

I find the overall theme of green and black works ok, except for the default desktop wallpaper [on KDE] and system icons in the tray, on notebook LCD. The black background has a misty overlay that seems to interfere with the rendering of default white desktop fonts. If that’s not the reason then something else is adversely affecting the font rendering wrt sharpness/clarity at default size. Since 12.3’s release I’ve always disliked those white home-grown tray icons.

However, changing wallpaper and reverting the white tray icons to those used in 12.2 is easy enough with KDE settings. For me they present a better quality icon with the advantage of familiarity across three openSUSE releases.

okay, thanks for the confirmation

I think that is definitely one of the prime reasons distros switched over to it from some of the legacy solutions (bootsplash, splashy, rhgb…)

Yeah, I’ve been wondering why … and while I don’t have a proper Fedora install, booting from the F20 Gnome live ISO reveals that they have a basic (spinning) animation at startup, and the boot times are pretty similar to my (proper) openSUSE KDE install

perhaps a (lcd) panel type issue … maybe dithering related?

here again, I’m so-so on such … on the one hand I can understand that KDE wanted to create a consistent look, and I do like most of them … on the other hand, they look funny given all the other icons in the taskbar are coloured and then they seem to be lacking in several respects.

Thanks! It works!

[QUOTE=nrickert;2615392]I rather like that theme. It may be the best ever (from my subjective viewpoint).

Anyway, there is something you can do. You can volunteer for the opensuse art department and see if you can get to design better artwork for 13.2. I’m not sure how to volunteer, but if you are resourceful, you should be able to find a way./QUO ?
