I installed openSUSE-Factory-KDE-Live-x86_64-Snapshot20140807-Media.iso in my virtual machine using the live-installer with no problems.
Good to hear. I tried about a week ago, and it failed badly. But there have been some updates in bugzilla suggesting that the problem was fixed.
I’ll download and try an install shortly.
I had many problems, though I did eventually get it installed. The problems did not end with installation.
I installed to an external drive. And I am seeing the device name for the external drive change.
For example, I boot and the external drive is “/dev/sdb”. A while later, “/dev/sdb” does not exist, but a new device name is now present at the end of the device list. At that stage, I have no commands available other than shell builtins, so I can’t tell much.

Try to use partition label instead of device name.

That won’t help at all.
I’m pretty sure that the system is using UUID. But that takes care of device name changes from one boot to the next. It does not deal with the name changing while the system is running.
Incidentally, I reported this as Bug 891168 - Device names are changing dynamically, making the system disappear.
