What do you think of this opinions?

Read about it on some other pages. Personally I think flash will die slowly when html5 becomes the standard.

It couldn’t happen quickly - flash doesn’t really do anything
quickly.

Well, other than consume memory/CPU resources - that it does quickly.

I actually have fond memories of flash. Just remember as it came into
being. All these little videos that popped up and i remember one about
the introduction of the imac with steve jobs at the time. It was a
ironic video. Today flash is an essential part of the web and i have to
see really html5 taking off to replace it. It will be interesting to
see how the transition will go. Will it be smooth or rocky.

YIPEE! send that Flash Pig to the slaughter house and gimme more HTML5!!

the sooner net outlets stop serving up Flash content the sooner i’ll
smile more. (and have smoother, less troublesome video performance!)

They are not stopping development of FLASH. They are stopping it on cell
phones. They intend to continue development for the desktop.

Yes, that’s about the way I feel.

However, until youtube has converted to all html5, I won’t be holding my breath waiting.

True, but as more and more people are doing things with mobile platforms,
a lack of flash on mobile platforms means that content providers either
(a) will stop supporting a growing market segment, or (b) they’ll stop
using Flash so they can reach an increasing mobile audience.

Similarly, Microsoft seems to be dumping Silverlight.

just a WILD guess: since Google owns youtube and android…i’d bet
both will be using the newer (slimmer, faster, and OPEN) HTML5 just as
soon as it is nearly possible…

yipee! the consumer wins again…(Adobe looses its grip on online video
and MS looses its @ss (once again) for trying to woo the masses away
from someone else’s propritary gizmo to their own…YIPEEE! open will
rule eventually, wait and see.)

Unless HTML5 will be somewhat closed in the end :stuck_out_tongue: look at the codec mess. I hope it is resolved by now but I really don’t know.

Best regards,
Greg

Gee, is there no love for flash?
As long as there is no substitute (HTML5) you still need flash. I am
hesitant to light the candle just yet. The transition may get rocky and
we need to wait when we will see a html5 web to take place. Till then
we will relay on flash in some form.

There are many sites that invested a lot using flash. That will not change
anytime soon.

I expect Flash will be around for a while. W3C’s target date for recommendation of HTML5 is not until 2014.

I am using HTML5 in youtube. Thhe fullscreen mode is not entirely fullscreen.

Is online video really that essential to everyone’s life now?

to me it is. I watch some news over web like my german news which i can
not get anyway on cable.
Its not that you need it, but more that its part of it. Haven’t seen
any other form how to watch a movie or a clip.

At least youtube seems to be working hard to get rid of flash, this weekend I watched several youtube videos in Opera on FreeBSD, maybe a little slow in 720p, but that might have had other causes. And there were many videos to choose from.

An interesting article regarding the topic
