The glory days of platform contention may be behind us. The operating system and hardware diversity that was a feature of the 1980s and 1990s is gone. The limited system resources that caused many of the engineering trade-offs made in Mac OS and Windows 9x are ancient history, and with their passing, modern operating systems are all, on a technical level, much of a muchness. But that doesn’t mean that the platform differences have disappeared. They might not be so immediately obvious as they once were, but they’re still there, all products of the corporate cultures behind the two platforms. And the result is that both platforms, both Windows and Mac OS X, they both—each in their own special way—suck. Long may it continue.
People will always want to argue about differences. I bet they argue these days about which smartphone apps are the best. Or something.
It occurred to me that with smartphones, e-readers, PDAs and all sorts of gadgets with embedded OSes, some day there may be more instances of those than people on the planet. You probably only need a couple of desktops, for work and for home, but you may end up with lots of smart gadgets.

After reading the article i realized that people don’t have much choices in what they run. Well, of course you one can always run Linux. But on what side you are, you are bound to the system that is offered.
You got a PC, you need to run Windows. If you have Mac, OSX is your companion.
There are at least no comercial choices really and, most people, won’t consider any other choice anyway.
I’ll guess the biggest limitation on a Mac seems to be the hardware and the limited upgrades. Always likes the Apple computers, but its true. You can’t really upgrade them with a better gfx card.
I think the big arguments will be over embedded platforms. It will come down to brand loyalty. You can already see this in the Android and Iphone articles on Slashdot.
Either you are a black turtle neck hipster with a walled garden or you aren’t is how the arguments tend to shake out. Plenty of trolling from both factions.
It will only get worse as more people move away from a traditional computing model to a mobile computing model with tablets, cellular phones and other mobile computing devices.
I laugh and point at them. Use what works for you. I am old enough to ignore prejudice as ignorance.
