Text on some websites is rendered to faint to read. I can read it if I select it all but otherwise I cannot.

have you by any chance changed the system color scheme off of default? i had the same issue when i decided to change my color scheme and its a simple fix inside firefox settings uncheck the check box for use system colors
That worked. All though I had to change it within about:config
