Tethering with EasyTether not working

Sirs,

I have been trying to get EasyTether to work on SuSe 13.2 for some time without success. I have had it working on earlier versions, but I cannot figure out what is wrong. Here is what I seen in journalctl:

During boot:
Jun 28 08:15:48 linux-sk55 systemd-udevd[520]: invalid ENV attribute, ‘DRIVER’ can not be set /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/65-easytether.rules:1

Jun 28 08:24:01 linux-sk55 systemd-udevd[504]: invalid ENV attribute, ‘DRIVER’ can not be set /usr/lib/udev/rules.d/65-easytether.rules:1
Jun 28 08:24:01 linux-sk55 systemd-udevd[504]: invalid rule ‘/usr/lib/udev/rules.d/65-easytether.rules:1’

After typing “easytether connect”
Jun 28 08:58:22 linux-sk55.site NetworkManager[1180]: <info> (easytether0): carrier is OFF
Jun 28 08:58:22 linux-sk55.site NetworkManager[1180]: <info> (easytether0): new Tun device (driver: ‘unknown’ ifindex: 4)
Jun 28 08:58:22 linux-sk55.site NetworkManager[1180]: <info> (easytether0): exported as /org/freedesktop/NetworkManager/Devices/4

Giving up ctrl-c:
Jun 28 08:58:33 linux-sk55.site avahi-daemon[1028]: Withdrawing workstation service for easytether0.

I see it with “ifconfig -a”:

Just a comment: next time, place text such as logs and commands inside a
code tags block. You get them using the ‘#’ button in the forum editor.

It makes easier reading

Hmm, says I can edit a post, but I don’t see how to do that. I’ll try again, just for the LULZ.

Huh, i guess it is a little easier to read. Certainly looks “cooler”. If it gets me an answer, that is all that matters.

There is a 10 minutes window in which you can edit a post. The reason is
explained in the FAQ.

About your real problem, sorry, I don’t know. I hope somebody else does
and comes by

Sirs,

I have continued to work on getting easytether to work without success. I want to use easytether as it is a one time $10 charge whereas the Verizon tethering is $20-$30 extra on my bill per month. I had easytether working with an older version (12.3 i think) and i can currently get it to work with Windows 7 on the same laptop as I am trying to get SuSe 13.2 tether.

They came out with a new version (0.8.4-2) and I decided to give it a whirl. The instructions say to turn off network manager and turn on the “Wicked” service, which i do. I feel like I am very close to getting it to work, but that I am missing something. The service appears to start ok (though it DOES sometimes crash without warning).

It shows up with ifconfig:

mevans@linux-sk55.site:/home/mevans> /sbin/ifconfig tun-easytether
tun-easyt Link encap:UNSPEC HWaddr 00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00-00
UP POINTOPOINT RUNNING NOARP MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:500
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 b) TX bytes:0 (0.0 b)

It shows up in the hardware information:

Gaaa, it doesn’t show up in the file i output, and a screen shot is too difficult. If you believe that there is useful information here i will see what I can do.

“sudo /sbin/ifconfig tun-easytether up” Works ok, so i think i can “turn it on”.

However, the device does NOT show up under “Network Settings” for Wicked or Network Manager. And if I turn off all other network devices with ifconfig i cannot connect to the internet.

If anyone has any suggestions on how I can troubleshoot further please let me know.

Thanks for your help.
