terminal simulation

hi all:

what is the default terminal simulator for opensuse 13.1 (like hyperterminal for xp)?

thanks.

You mean “terminal emulator”?

Well, this depends on what desktop environment you are using.
For KDE it is “konsole”, for GNOME it is “gnome-terminal” f.e.

“xterm” should be available in any case.

I have always used “minicom” for that. You probably have to install it.

I think Wolfi misundertood the question, and gave the wrong answer.

“xterm” is roughly the equiv of a windows “Command Prompt”, while “minicom” (running inside an “xterm”) is roughly the equiv of “hyperterminal”, though perhaps a bit cruder.

Probably.
And I confused HyperTerminal with something like PowerShell, too.

Sorry.

Wikipedia mentions PuTTY as an alternative for HyperTerminal (as that is not included in Windows since Vista any more), which is also included in openSUSE. So you might have a look at that as well.

Package description:

putty

GTK-based terminal emulator program

PuTTY is a terminal emulator application which can act as a client
for the SSH, Telnet, rlogin, and raw TCP computing protocols and as a
serial console client.

thanks, i guess there is no default terminal simulator, like win7.

thanks. i installed both minicom and putty for linux and try them out.
