Hi!
Since I’ve updated my system last week I experience sometimes every few minutes a freezing of my notebook, which goes away after a half minute. It actually seems to happen when a program has to access the harddrive or the network card. It won’t redraw its window when I switch between a few programs and sometimes even the X server is affected by freeze.
I’m pretty sure that the cause isn’t with the programs I use regularly, as the freeze affects every program currently running (also my first suspects were shutdown without affecting anything). So my theory is that my kernel update causes the congestions - and that’s why I hoped that another one would fix the problem, but none appeared so far.
I’ve looked in the forums but I’ve found not many useful suggestions. I’ve uninstalled Beagle long time ago. Another suggestion is to update my NVIDIA driver but I’m using the most current one available in YAST. Then someone else mentioned one should remove Compiz, but I’m not sure what possible side-effects are when doing so. Is uninstalling compiz safe?
I’m not sure what kind of information you need so I post some basics: OpenSUSE 11, Linux version 2.6.25.18-0.2-pae (geeko@buildhost) (gcc version 4.3.1 20080507 (prerelease) [gcc-4_3-branch revision 135036] (SUSE Linux) ) #1 SMP 2008-10-21 16:30:26 +0200. If you need more just ask.
Thanks in advance for any help!
