TaskBar Crashes

Hi, i think i found a bug in OpenSuse 11 Kde 3.5x DvD
I have had this several times with 2 different methods.
Quite often, when i search for things in the Kicker Menu the Taskbar Crashes and disappears and won’t come back. I have also had this happen several times when going into the menu/Computer and right clicking on the DVD inserted and trying to open it with the media player that i choose. Again… I get a Crash and the Taskbar disappears.

By the way, does anybody know how to make it so whenever i insert a cd or DVD, that it creates an icon/mounts to the Desktop? So i can easily access my dvd?

Thanx

Not sure about the crashing bit… that’s odd. Let’s pretend it doesn’t
happen and keep playing…

To make Device Icons show up on desktop…

  • Start the ‘Configure Desktop’ app (kcontrol) from the K-menu… (try not to
crash it), it’s usually found in the favorites, or hey! that’s the only place
    it is. weird.
  • Select ‘Desktop -> Behavior’ and then the ‘Device Icons’ tab.
  • Enable the ‘Show Device Icons’ checkbox, then review the list to make sure
the desired device type is enabled. Mostly, you want to select the ‘Mounted
xxx’ type entries… or just click ‘apply’ and close the kcontrol app.
  • You should now see icons on your desktop for anything you plug in or insert.
    Discs, flash-drives, camera, etc.

Ok, that’s ONE way…

I like this way…

  • Right click on your Taskbar, click on ‘Add Applet to Panel…’
  • Window pops up… scroll through it until you find ‘Storage Media’, about
3/4 way down list (hey! they’re alphabetical! OMG I’m SO blonde tonight)
  • It’ll add an icon to your Taskbar, I usually move it just to the left side
of the ‘what’s running’ section, and to the right of existing icons.

NOW, when you insert a CD/DVD/Flash… you’ll get an icon on the taskbar you
can click. keeps them handy, and you can click on it, select ‘eject’ and
voila! it umounts and ejects the drive tray for you. (darn shame it doesn’t
eject flash-drives… that would be cool)

I have the same problem with crashes with searching. Any workarounds?

ahh, there is somebody else who has the same problem as me! so it must be a minor bug…
in saying this, I guess you can’t expect it to be perfect in a “.0” release, theres still bug fixes to come soon
Apart from that, everything is Sweet!
