hiii ,
i am using SUSE 11.0 KDE 4.0 , i had set 4 virtual desktops.
Before this version i had used SUSE 10.2, there also i had set 4 virtual desktops. I can open any program in all the 4 desktops. The windows of opened programs are shown in taskbar. In this (10.2 ) version i had a option to hide the windows that are opened in other desktops.
But in this latest (11.0) version there is no option to hide windows running in other desktops. My taskbar has all the windows, I want to show only 2 or 3 windows.
The latest version is 11.1.
It comes with KDE4.1.3. I recommend you to upgrade to this version, the Taskbar Settings includes the option what you want. Before upgrading take a look to the wiki page: KDE/KDE4 - openSUSE.
Good luck.

This should work regardless of version, though I haven’t tried out the
latest KDE. In Gnome I change this same setting by right-clicking on
the little separator between my ‘Computer’ menu (the main menu) and the
rest of my taskbar and the options in there let me select if the taskbar
shows all windows or just windows in the current workspace.
Good luck.

Consider upgrading to KDE 4.1 as it does have the feature.
Or get completely up to date and go for 4.2, way more taskbar features in 4.2 like double row, grouping, sorting.
