It would be possible to install the tapatalk plugin in this forums? I can’t access via android tapatalk (and I think there are a lot of people with android or ios with the same problem).
As a user of openSUSE, you would know that our attitude is that our operating system and associated software is and should always be Open Source. Installing the commercial app Tapatalk in our forum software would mean that users would have to pay Tapatalk to come here, which would probably conflict with our Open Source values. Bit of a moral barrier I think.
We use vBulletin, don’t we? And that is commericial, or am I wromg? As I understand him correct (I could be completely wrong as a non Android user), he wants a commercial plugin in a commercial forums software.
I do not say we should do it (ater all, I am satisfied when I can use the Forums as openSUSE user), but I do not understand the argument. Must be me missing something crucial in your post
The Tapatalk plugin for vBulletin, as you can read, is free. You need to pay for the “client” (for ios or android systems).
Like a registered member, I could download the plugin and send to you (administrator) for the installation. The spanish version of forums.opensuse.org (ForoSUSE - Desarrollado por vBulletin) is using it without any cost.
My fellow moderators are not opposed to tapatalk. It is a commercial world that we live in. So I will not oppose its use here. Our technical staff tell me that tablet access is on the agenda for our forums, has been tested, but at the moment there are some problems (which no doubt will be fixed in time).
According to Kim Groneman (our tech administrator): “login integration is the issue since we don’t use vBulletin default login”.
(which statement reaches approx my limit of understanding)

We would lose historical user data back four years and also lose the
NNTP access. It’s a difficult decision but we’ve opted to stay with the
remote login for now.

If there’s anything we could do to ease the transition whilst
maintaining NNTP access, I for one would be happy to devote some
coding/testing time.

I’ve had great success with the NewsTap iOS app to access the forums via
NNTP.

Do you work with Novell technologies at a university, college or school?
If so, your campus could benefit from joining the Novell Technology
Transfer Partner (TTP) program. See novell.com/ttp for more details.

It’s not really a matter of transitioning - SUSE and Novell use the same
authentication infrastructure, so there isn’t a “transition” to be made.

In that case, I’m not really sure what swerdna was saying with regard to
opensuse forums switching to use standard vbulletin auth.

He was explaining that the reason we don’t have the mobile template set
up at present is because we use a plugin to authenticate against the user
store and the standard template works with it, but the mobile template
doesn’t at this stage.
The user ‘toomany’ asked why the authentication infrastructure put in
place by Novell was still in use, and Swerdna was answering that question
that if we were to switch, we’d lose the historical data. He wasn’t
saying that we were switching or planning to switch, just what the
effects of switching would be.
I know it hurts to digg out this probably since years abandoned thread. But since this is my first post since 2010 (yeah, no computer sucks) I think I might be forgiven. Here’s my question: What’s the best way to access this forum on my Android device if not via Tapatalk (which I happen to own)? I’d prefer some high quality answers of Android users, please.
Have a blessed 2014 everyone, I’m happy to be back to rock with you! rotfl!

vBulletin has a mobile style that is selectable at the bottom of the
forum pages.Read about it :- http://forums.opensuse.org/faq.php?faq=novfor#faq_mobile
I think that a number of people have created an entry in Tapatalk for example Debian forums, fedora forums etc.,.
Some times its irritating in order to complete the login process in Firefox browser I mean in order to give reply to a thread you have created previously, first you must login.
In other forums if you want to reply to a thread you need not login. If you think creating an entry in Tapatalk is not legal then I am requesting you to develop an app similar to Tapatalk.
I’ll add to this that on Windows Phone and IE on it, the forums are… unusable due to font sizes being completely either very large or almost non-visible.

Hi
Add an nntp client on your device (I use PhoNews on my ASUS
