I can’t get KDE4 composite stuff working (eg. transparency…). I think I have set all the correct things in my xorg, but it complains that I don’t have it set correctly. I have intel graphics on a HP/Compaq notebook. I’m using KDE4-factory repo for opensuse 11.1
I’m intel too. Here is mine for you to compare:

Not much of an xorg, you probably never get a lot.
Anyways I’m also rocking out with an Intel 945GM inside a laptop. I’m using a Dell though as seen in my sig.
The only thing I can suggest is changing your monitor from → LCD to some other compaq or hp monitor using the graphical Sax2 and also making sure 3d acceleration is checked in Sax2.
Here’s my xorg as well:

What is the exact error that you get when you try to enable Desktop Effects?
Good Luck,
Ian
