I installed openSUSE 11.2 on my laptop lenovo T60, but I can’t connect internet using it.
linux-o1sa:/home/baijingjiao # dmesg | grep eth
no output.
I downloaded below 2 files from Intel Wired Ethernet | Get Intel Wired Ethernet at SourceForge.net
e1000-8.0.19.tar.gz
e1000e-1.1.2.tar.gz
which one should I use for my NIC?
and I need kernel-source/gcc/make to compile them right? I can’t connect internet, how can I install them for my openSUSE? I have a liveCD of opensuse, can I install them from the CD? how??
linux-o1sa:/home/baijingjiao # lspci

If you look for T60 here: HCL/Laptops/IBM - openSUSE
They show Ethernet working:\

oh…they only mentioned 10.1,10.2,10.3, 11.1 , no 11.2, … maybe I should install 11.1 for my laptop T60?
I doubt that 11.1 works and 11.2 doesn’t
Give it a go if you like
I’m sorry some of the network guys have not replied
I tried openSUSE 11.1 liveCD (no installation), seems can’t drive NIC too >:(>:( what can I do?
I need my Ethernet card to work
Not sure what you should do.
I would install 11.2 from the DVD. And try again.
I can only reiterate that all the T60 refs in the HCL show no issues with ethernet.

My R61e is: Broadcom Corporation NetLink BCM5787M
============================================
Did some Googling for you
Network Adapter Driver for PCI-E Gigabit Network Connections under Linux*](http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Detail_Desc.aspx?agr=Y&DwnldID=15817&ProdId=2198&lang=eng )
read me here: http://downloadmirror.intel.com/15817/eng/README.txt
I mean are your R61e 's Ethernet Card work on openSUSE?
I checked my kernel drivers net folder, there are e1000 and e1000e, why the opensuse didn’t use any one of them?
linux-afyu:/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/drivers/net # ls ./e1000
e1000.ko
linux-afyu:/lib/modules/2.6.31.5-0.1-desktop/kernel/drivers/net # ls ./e1000e
e1000e.ko
someone can help me ?
I can’t connect internet use my laptop through ethernet card now.

Yes. My R61e is as quoted. A different device to you.
Can you connect with your wireless?
I have no wireless router.

I didn’t find NetworkManager, where is it?
or how can I switch the network setup method to Traditional method with ifup?:shame:
If you just OK there then switch the radio button to traditional ifup
Then go to the Overview tab
You should see your two devices,
Select the ethernet device and from lower left of the UI, choose edit,
Just click Next to accept all the defaults.
Reboot when done.
If it still does not work let us know
