Looking on the forums it seems this could be keyboard or font related, I’m in the UK using a UK english device. Any ideas as to a cause please?

I noticed this today booting my TW laptop, I’m about to have to re-boot my TW desktop in a while and will check to see if it appears on that as well. I have seen this before and it did not have any adverse effect and it was fixed after a while but I dont remember exactly when.

Actually there is a bug 1166423 in bugzilla for this opened in March this year.

I just booted the desktop and it does NOT exhibit the issue. Must be a difference between that and laptop for key maps, one works and one does not. Both systems are TW KDE and fully updated today.

Thats great - thanks for the help.

Looking at 1166423 – Failed to start Setup Virtual Console

cat /etc/vconsole.conf

There are no ‘uk’ keymaps in ls /usr/share/kbd/keymaps/xkb/

There are gb ones however - i presume for Great Britain.

What config do any other UK Opensuse users have pls?

cat /etc/vconsole.conf

from my desktop which does not show the error on boot up.

Thank you. If I make the change do you know if I have to run mkinitrd or anything? As the change wasn’t detected on my initial change.

Yes, run mkinitrd after changing /etc/vconsole.conf

Just to complete the picture I edited my laptop vconsole.conf to be the same as my desktop, ran mkinitrd and all is fine now with no error.
