I have two different monitors on an nVidia GTS 450. One takes a resolution of 1280x1024 and the other takes 1920x1080. I’m using TwinView and had the whole thing set up the way I wanted it with a desktop on each side. While I was using systemsettings, just out of curiosity, I checked under the “Display and Monitor” section, looking specifically first at “Size & Orientation”, then at “Multiple Monitors”. I believe (and unfortunately do not remember) that I might have unchecked something that was checked in the “Multiple Monitors” section, then checked it again. When I tried to leave the module, it did ask me if I wanted to apply or discard the changes, and I chose apply. (What’s confusing to me is that I could have sworn I didn’t actually change anything in there; I thought I’d just looked.) Once applied, the “left desktop” (on the 1280x1024 screen) disappeared and the “right desktop” (that had been on the 1920x1080 screen) was now shoved to the left, taking up the entire left screen and about a third of the right screen. Everything had been moved over, including widgets, though the only part of the kickoff bar that was visible was the part on the right screen. Now, I can’t even check what I did because systemsettings tells me I do not seem to have multiple monitors no matter what my resolution is and I haven’t found anything I recognize as useful in ~/.kde4/share/config. Fortunately, changing my resolution in the nVidia X Server settings to simply 1920x1080 gives me a single, usable desktop, but I want my left monitor back.
The ‘desktop’ I had on the left was very simple and I don’t care about recovering it. However, I cannot figure out how I’m supposed to move the “left desktop” back to the left and create a new one again on the right.
Possibly pertinent information:
OS version: 11.4
KDE version: 4.8.4
nVidia driver version: 295.49 (for desktop kernel)
If any other information is needed, let me know. xorg.conf has not been changed at all from the time that it worked until now.
