Systemctl soft-reboot VS luks-encrypted /home

I’ve recently found out about soft-reboot and have started using it more and more whenever I face issues in userspace, in order to start from a clean sheet (unless it turns out to be an intricate issue also involving the kernel).

What I’m a bit confused about though, is that sometimes it brings me to a shell prompt asking for my luks passphrase, after which it loads my Display Manager.

Other times instead it just loads the Display Manager, no luks decryption required.

Why this inconsistency? Is there some secret caching involved, so that a soft-reboot coming long after a luks decryption will prompt for the secret again, while a soft-reboot performed shortly after the first decryption will not require the secret again? Slightly confused.

Just to clarify, my / is unencrypted (btrfs with snapshots) while my /home is (separate partition, also btrfs)

Thanks!
