Strange but my system (LEAP 42.1 64 bit with Plasma5) will not restart when I use the button from the application menu. I get a bar across screen entitled “Rebooting” with 30,sec countdown and a reboot button but when I click on this the machine does not reboot. The screen goes black but no keys do anything (possibly because I do not know what to try) but Alt+sys rq +B does force a restart.
Any ideas what is wrong and how to fix please?
Hi
Does it work from the command line?
systemctl reboot
Hi Malcolm,
Thanks for the command. Meanwhile I tried letting the countdown complete and the screen went black but did not restart. Waited a while and then did an Alt + Sys rq + B a few times and then machine started and booted OK…
Tried the restart button again and this time it worked as it should; shutdown with usual text scrolling followed by black screen, monitor turning off and then UEFI bios on starting up. Strange. Will assume all is well again.
Thanks once more.
That sometimes happens here. It mostly happens on a machine using the G02 nvidia drivers (maybe 20% of the time on that machine).
I usually do CTRL-ALT-BACKSPACE (twice) to crash the X-session, then reboot from the “lightdm” login screen. If that doesn’t work, I use CTRL-ALT-F1, login as root and reboot from the command line.
