I was having trouble with Virt Manager. I had selected the patterns option to install the kvm tech when I setup this system (at install).

I got tired of messing with it. The option to enable KVM in YaST was greyed out. But the checkboxes were not checked.

I went to yast software and uninstalled everything in the “pattern” option for KVM. Then reinstalled it all using the Yast system dialog option (no the software management section).

This is what shows up now in the software:

Then I updated using zypper and flatpak. Then restarted and it said “starting MicroOS”

I just did a rollback and everything is normal again. But…

Ya, If anyone can tell me what they think might have happened. That would be great.

You can check the installation history in YaST Software. Have a look when you installed MicroOS branding/packages.

Most likely is that you installed the package MicroOS-release which removed openSUSE-release.

What exactly. This is very vague. How can anyone check if you made a mistake when you do not tell exactly what you did?

A Pattern is a list of packages that are advised for a specific functionality. That means that there can be packages there that are also in other Patterns, or maybe needed without any Patterns being installed. Thus de-installing all that is listed in a Pattern can easily lead to de-installing things you need.

DUP

sudo zypper dup
sudo flatpak update

There is an option in the software manager for the pattern “KVM server” to install the microos related stuff. But it wasn’t selected or shown to be installed.

Fyi this pic is from my system after the rollback. I haven’t run a dup yet. The pic in my original post is from before the rollback.
