System UUID change

Hi
Is there a way to change the system UUID ? As far as i know system uuid is extracted from biios , and veeam needs unique uuids. Unfortunately seems that a some motherboard manufacturers use the some uuid, and the result is that on 3 physical systems i have the same uuid ( to be able to link them to veema as immutable storages, different uuids are required .
If there is a way to change it, could somebody advise me, please ?
Thanks

@laca3400 Hi and welcome to the Forum :smile:
Are these virtual machines or bare-metal? It would seem not… https://forums.veeam.com/servers-workstations-f49/duplicate-uuids-t47813.html?ad=in-text-link It’s probably something you need to follow up with the veeam folks…

Hi Malcolm
The machines are physical machines, motherboard is Axiomtek, and Asus .
I`ve landed here after picking up the issue with Veeam. They suggested UUID change, and 3 motherboards later i said i need help …
Thanks,. best regards

@laca3400 What type of BIOS is on the machines egi AMI, Award etc? I suspect your going to have to do some low level DMI foo in the BIOS, or ask the Motherboard Manufacturers what tools they have to do this…

Hi Malcom
The second front opened, is at the motherboard manufacturer (Axiomtek), until i get a response from there, thought i give a try with changing the UUID from linux, maybe is possible .
Thanks, best reagrds

@laca3400:

Just to confirm and, for those readers who are wondering which UUID values are being addressed here –

  • Taking this machine as an example, if you do the following –
 # cat /sys/class/dmi/id/product_uuid
723c0737-3112-5654-7963-04421a227103
 #
 # dmidecode | grep UUID
        UUID: 723c0737-3112-5654-7963-04421a227103
 #

– are all the machines are displaying the same product UUID values?

hi
yes , using the dmidecode | grep UUID , the result is the same on the physical machines. Even tried to add a different NIC ,as UUID is generated based also on the NIC MAC address ( as far as i know ) but no change.
Tomorrow can add screenshot if needed .

Thanks, best regards

@laca3400:

Then, unfortunately, you are forced to use a BIOS/UEFI tool to change each and every Motherboard/Mainboard UUID value.

  • These tools are, AFAICS, only available from the BIOS/UEFI suppliers – AFAICS, there ain’t no universal tool …

Which is why, Malcom asked you to examine which BIOS/UEFI is present on the hardware you’re using.

Hi
Bios is AMI (American Megatrend) 2017 Aptio
Thanks, best regards

@laca3400 use at you own risk!!! https://www.ami.com/bios-uefi-utilities/

Edit: Google “AMI BIOS DMI tool” will give additional info…

Hi Malcolm
Thanks for the quick reply, will dig in
