Finally installed openSUSE 12.3, as stated in signature. I was trying to turn off automatic updates, by telling it to never look for updates, as I used to do in previous openSUSE versions. Question is, I can’t find Apper or System updates settings.
I don’t want Gnome’s updates to make conflicts with Yast Software Manager, that’s why I’m trying to disable them, but I can’t find where. Already tried to run Software Updates from the System Tools applications, all it did was LOOK FOR updates, though installed nothing, but no settings…
I’m looking how to disable Apper automatic updates check in KDE. Could anybody point me how to disable this annoying notification every time I boot the machine?
Open apper > configure > check for updates never
It still does check but that’s it
Apparently this is now normal that it does something you tell it not to

i do not know how to just disable that right after boot check…but:
easiest: just right click the icon in the system tray and select
Disable (or something like that…i deleted mine so long ago i do not
remember)…there may even be a way therein to disable just that
after boot check…
slightly more difficult: open YaST Software Management and search on
apper, then click to set it to be uninstalled, and then click “Accept”
some people also uninstall packagekit along with apper…but, without
apper package kit is unused and no problem in KDE , but may be
needed if you also use Gnome (i think)…
without apper it is up to you to remember to run YaST Online Update
(or ‘zypper patch’) as often as needed…or set it up to run
automatically.
Many people don’t choose to do that. Many people are not annoyed by a little icon appearing in the panel’s system tray area, and even many more people don’t have a problem finding KDE/Gnome system settings in the usual places (unless really new to openSUSE).
Oh, right. I didn’t notice that small button in the right top corner which opens settings. I expected a huge icon somewhere in the visible area
Now disabled it. Thanks
Running KDE I discovered that going into Yast’s software manager, searching for apper and uninstalling it and marking it taboo solved the auto updating issue under KDE. Also when doing a fresh install you can go into the software right before the install and remove apper and auto update NEVER runs. . .
Just installed openSUSE’s gnome 13.1 and saw that apper was not being in stalled with gnome. As soon as the install was complete I was notified of updates. I found this post looking for instructions to disable/remove auto update from openSUSE Gnome 13.1. I gave up looking online for this issue.
Poking around in settings was not productive. I decided to look at the updating program in Yast, you know, the program I want to run when I want to see if there are any updates I might want to install. After Online Update initialized I saw the word Configuration in the task bar. One of the two option under Configuration was onlineupdate which I clicked. I was notified that software would need to be installed in order to configure online updater. I approved and now I have an application sitting in Yast called Online Update configuration which has "AUTOMATIConlineupdate" UN-checked. Hopefully auto update will no longer occur for me.
However, I did notice that unlike apper in KDE, it seem that if you want some programs or apps updated automatically you have a lot of control on what, how, when that will happen.
