System update + missing files/broken repos

I’m currently updating KDE4 from the FACTORY repo but since I’ve been using openSUSE, I’ve noticed several files missing from repos and sometimes errors such as this one:

File ‘/repodata/repomd.xml’ not found on medium ‘http://download.opensuse.org/repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Factory:/Community/openSUSE_11.0/

Abort, retry, ignore? [A/r/i]:

My question is, with such unstable repos, couldn’t this potentially break my system since each file installs after it is downloaded so my software is getting upgrade but not completely? Just curious.

Which is why you usually do not add a ton of repos, but only those which you know are stable for your taste.

I’d think the openSUSE FACTORY repo would (and should) be stable though. So am I correct? These half-installs are potentially dangerous for my system? I can’t get the rest of the files I need but I don’t want to reboot/logout for fear that something in KDE might be broken

I noticed the same. I guess for now it’s been merged. If you go to the server via http you will see there is nothing there. Same in the stable desktop too.
I deleted my files there and then the repo’s.

EDIT

the address has changed
Index of /repositories/KDE:/KDE4:/Community/openSUSE_11.0_KDE4_Factory_Desktop

You, sir, are a legend. I NEVER EVER would have figured out that they’d change their structuring on the repo. How did you find that out so I could look for that in the future??

Just by going thru all the possible links

I have
Index of /repositories
bookmarked
just follow kde, then kde4 and so on, eventually you find your way

Sorry there is no easy answer, maybe there is or at least there should be!

you can add repos through yast by
yast>software manager>repositories>add
choose community repositories.
As far as package not found this happens
and aint no big deal just try again next day
and remember when playing with development versions things will be broken and don’t panic

I don’t know why they decided to change a month after a release, but I came across it on one of the mailing lists while searching for a solution to the OP’s question.

Maybe it would have been a good idea to give a heads-up to the forum, with a sticky or something, since this is supposed to be the place to go after the consolidation…

Thank you very much for this. I had been having the same issue with the repository, but I had just figured they had taken it off-line for some reason and it would be back.
