i just installed opensuse 11.2 kde4 after using ubuntu 9.10 with gnome for a while. I have to say i like it a lot. Kde is awesome. But at login i went and clicked on where you choose the window manager and out of curiosity clicked on metacity (mistake on my part) and now when i boot up i just get a black screen and mouse. My guess is that if a can logout i can change it back to kde but autologin is enable. PLEASSSSSSEEEEE HEEEELLLLPPPP!!!

Try hitting CTRL+ALT+Backspace twice. That should kill X and bring you
back to a login screen.

Quick and dirty solution is just to hit alt-f2, then wait a few seconds, type ‘konsole’, wait a few seconds, then type ‘kwin --replace &’.
You won’t be able to see what you’re typing - doesn’t mean it won’t work though.
And then turn autologin off. It’s wrong and evil.
[edit - ah. Jim’s suggestion is the better one. But you should still turn off autologin…]
thanks ill try jims idea now… get back to you in a second
it worked. thanks a lot
