Hi… I just did a fresh install of openSUSE 11.2 on my machine, which was previously running 11.2 on ext3… I use KDE4, and all the packages are updated to the default repositories.
The Suspend to Ram feature used to work fine on my computer on 11.1, but now when I resume from Suspend to Ram, my system hangs in about 5-10 seconds, after which I cannot do anything (Ctrl+alt+backspace or switch to tty2,3 etc)… The only way out is switching the power off and turning it back on.
I guess I’ll need to post some logs here for people to help me, so can anyone tell me how to find where the problem lies and possibly the solutions.
Thanks
Thanks for the link.
This is the output for s2ram -n
Machine unknown
This machine can be identified by:
sys_vendor = "Hewlett-Packard"
sys_product = "HP Pavilion dv2000 (x123xx#ABA)"
sys_version = "F.3C"
bios_version = "F.3C"
See [S2ram - openSUSE](http://en.opensuse.org/S2ram) for details.
If you report a problem, please include the complete output above.
If you report success, please make sure you tested it from both X and
the text console and preferably without proprietary drivers.
I checked that its not just video but the entire machine that is not recovered because my caps lock stops responding as well.

caf4926:
Close all apps
Try this in a terminal,
s2ram -f
Yeah, I had tried that. Same thing happens, it resumes then hangs within 10 seconds or so. Btw, I do have a nVidia card, I went to the nVidia page for s2ram, and it asked me to edit something in /etc/X11/xorg.conf… strangely though I do not find a xorg.conf in that directory, only a xorg.conf.install. Has something changed?
There is no /etc/X11/xorg.conf unless you run sax2 to setup graphics.
It can be tricky figuring it out, but there are some examples of what to do. You can try the different options from the terminal to see if any work. If you get one working then you add a config file. To quote from one of the links:
Put your config file into /etc/pm/config.d/ . You can just put a simple text file there containing the detail
Eg: create a text file called config with this line:
S2RAM_OPTS=“-f -a 3”
Or whatever works for you
Thank you for the help, I will try and see what can be done.

I should have said: It’s possible that the kernel you use will matter
Eg: kernel-default or kernel-desktop
You may also find that later, as newer versions are released, things may behave differently again.
