system hanging up!

Hello,

I am in serious trouble apparently.

System boots up to loading NVIDIA drivers, it shows mouse pointer then it hangs up!

This happened after brutal force rebooting, because system did not responded properly (especially Nautilus). Probable cause:
forget to unmount.cifs a windows shared folder in the network (mounted with mount.cifs). It happened to me already sometimes (to forget umount.cifs), but never ending with this permaenent hanging up)

-tried automatic system repair with suse boot DVD. It repaired something + changed the bootloader. Problem still there

-rebooted–> system hanging up after NVIDIA drivers.

Suse 11.1_x64 on laptop SAMSUNG E172 /core2duo 2.53Ghz / 4Gb ram/ 500Gb HD / NVIDIA Gforce 9600M GT (coinstalled on sda7 with pre-installed vista on sda3)

problem solved by myself!

it was me, I edited during last session before “hanging up” the profile.local for automatically start up a license server.

I back.edited to the orig. profile.local, system ok.

Anyway this umount.cifs issue (if forgot it causes nautilus to crash) is annoying.

best, Alex

i don’t know exactly what you mean by brutal force rebooting but see
if you can’t find this mantra in these fora somewhere:

reisub

that is the magic key to a soft, non-brutal, non-forcing and usually
very safe and unharmful shutdown…

here, to get you going:
