I’m running OpeneSUSE 11.0 with KDE4 on a HP Pavilion ze2000 laptop. Most of the time if I leave the system alone for more than 5 minutes, it will freeze up. I can still move the cursor around but nothing else responds.
I’ve disabled any suspend settings in KPowersave. No screensavers are enabled. I’ve checked the bios for anything that would suspend the system and found nothing.
I looked at other freeze related threads and couldn’t come up with anything. Any ideas?
Thanks DD - looks like Firefox might be the culprit. I left the system idle with no windows open and just a konsole window and no hangs either time. Left it running with Firefox open and it froze up like usual.
I think it’s time I gave Konqueror another shot as my web browser.

wow…happy to be of service…
but, you might also try updating Firefox to 3.0.1 (search the forum
to learn how to do it via YaST–read the caveat below…if your
machine melts, it is not my fault!)
and, it might be worthwhile to see if you can find a SUSE/Firefox
person willing to try to figure out where the bug is in YOUR setup
('cause most sure do NOT have that problem)…
OH, i wonder if you are running 64 or 32? 'cause if you have a 64
system you MIGHT find that a 32 bit firefox is SMOOTHER than than the
64…i run nothing but 32 bit stuff here on a 64 CPU just because it
is easier, and more stable…

Running 32 bit kernel and firefox 3.0.1. I’ll go with your suggestion to find a Firefox/Suse expert to track down the exact reason…going to also load up a fresh user and see if firefox freezes the desktop.
