system Freezes during boot

Hi,
I love opensuse as it’s much snappier than MINT. But my system 11.3 is freezing while booting. I pressed ESC during splash and can see messages on the screen. The last message is ATA3 Exception EMASK…

I have uploaded the /var/boot.msg here klogd 1.4.1, log source = ksys - Suse Freeze - CuQAd3dg - Pastebin.com

There are no other log files!!!

My system: Intel Core2duo, Mother board Intel DG31PR, Intel integrated graphics G33, 3 GB DDR2 RAM, 250 GB SATA2 Hard drive

So your system freezes for a while, but then continues on after that? When you posted this report here, are you using your openSUSE computer? I was unable to locate the error to which you refered “ATA3 Exception EMASK” at the site you pointed to. As for error logs, if you can get openSUSE to run, even after a long delay, you might download a script file I wrote to look at several, but not all, of your error logs on your system.

Thank You,

Hi James,
Thanks for reply. No the system freezes it does nothing. I posted it using Ubuntu, which i installed after getting frequent freezes in SUSE. Ubuntu is fine in the same hard disk separate partition.
In the Log file there is no message. i just posted in for reference. It seems all the messages are not logged.
I don’t know Linux, not much about PCs. I am IBM Mainframer, so please bear with me. The last message in the log file should point to next set of possible activities ??? As it’s the only log file created during freeze, does it point to something???

So, when you reboot your computer and ready select your openSUSE version to load, type in this command first and then press enter:

acpi=off noapic

If this lets you run, then we could look at your kernel log files using my slave program to see if we can find out more information.

Thank You,

The lines I find of interest are 448-456, 599 and 611, no harm in having a look at them, ( I could be on the wrong track though ).

Based on the above information, if you have a video problem, you might also separately try the kernel load option **nomodeset **to see if this makes any difference.

Thank You,

ACPI=off noapic worked I am able to login and typing from there. Copied your SLAVE and it’s working. What to do next, please advise?

Sorry it’s getting late for me. Catch you later…

So using the options “ACPI=off noapic” is there anything not working for you? I would open up the “My Computer”, if you use KDE and see what your hardware is saying. As for slave, the kernel log file (option 1 boot.msg file) for the most recent startup might give a hint as to what is wrong. You can search the internet for kernel load options “ACPI=off noapic” to see just what they do.

Thank You,
