Hi,

You installed vlc from where?

Hello Peter and welcome to the OpenSuse help forum.

Best thing to do is to follow this guide as below:-

Multi-media and Restricted Format Installation Guide

This should get everything all sorted out.

Hi,

I have installed the VLC from the following link:

VideoLAN - VLC media player for openSUSE

My Suse Version is 11.2 So i selected in 11.2. After installation is over then suddenly it happens like this.

Regards,

A. Peter Jerald.

Please try booting with the Failsafe option. Does that work?

Just now i checked my system. It is not able to start the GUI mode. Showing the same error.

Please help me regarding this issue.

This will activate the Videolan repo, which is a bad thing as it is not compatible with the Packman repo. Deactivate the videolan repo and switch the packages installed from there to Packman - while I am a bit confused how the install of a mediaplayer can mix up your Xserver, I suppose these things are not related, it’s just something you should do after having sorted out your GUI problem.

It might be interesting to see what repositories you use (esp. since you might have used oneclickers more often). Please give us the output of

zypper lr -d

The problem is that “I installed VLC” . It overwrites the Qt libraries. I dont know why its overwrite?. Is there any other way to recover those Qt libraries?

You can boot to Yast like this and manage your repos and packages
Boot to Level 3, then Yast and More…

Thanks for your valuable information i have removed the vlc from package manager still i am not able to start my GUI. If i have update my package manager. Is it possible to get my GUI?

It’s possible that zypper dup might help here. But our not knowing your active repos is making that ill advised ATM
Make a list of the repos that are enabled and refreshing
Post it here

What is meant by ATM? Then can you tell me the steps to refresh my list of repos?

ATM = at the moment.

Refreshing repos:

zypper ref

List of all repos:

zypper lr -d

Putting that info in a file named 'repos.txt:

zypper lr -d > repos.txt

As caf already mentioned, you can actually use YaST in textmode as well, just log in as root, then type:

yast

and you will get something very similar to the YaST-GUI (navigation is done by the tab-key, arrows, space and enter).

Thanks for your information. Right now i am updating my system. After finished, let we know.

I tried all possible ways. Nothing helped me. I just reinstalled my Open suse. My all data gone .:frowning:

It’s always possible to backup
And if you had a separate /home, why would you loose the data anyway?

That’s right. You certainly chose to format the /home parrtition when you reinstall the system. You should have asked before doing it, we could have helped you. :frowning:
