Synaptiks Multiple Issues 12.1

List of issues:

  1. Freezing after sleep or hibernation (bug reporting issues, and application fails to restart when you press restart application in the crash report window)

  2. No debug packages seem to be listed in the Repo’s

  3. If you choose to select run at start-up the application will open a window every time the desktop loads. This is in contrast to earlier versions which quietly operated in the background.

To put it bluntly this package seems have regressed in usability, which is unfortunate for anyone with a laptop.

Synaptiks was one of the high points for Linux laptop users; it exceeded windows implementations of the same type in both usability and effectiveness. (Still does except of the constant crashing on wake up)

Are you asking for help, or is this just a rant? It can be moved if the latter…

or maybe the OP holds the incorrect impression that this forum is the
place to file bugs?

it is not. this is a forum where users help users…as far as i know no
developer comes here to see what users are having problems with…nope,
their time i fully taken up with working on the critters in bugzilla…

therefore, bugs must be filed in bugzilla, begin here:

Frustration yes, but I would like to get some feed back on filing a bug report.

To do this I need the debug packages, which to this point I have been unable to find.

I have added several repo’s that should contain the package, on top of that I have searched
the webpin. All of these have yielded no results. It seem that several others have been having
the same issue. With about the same responses from those that have take the time to reply.

With out the debug data bug reports are of little use to developers as you well know.

There is a debug repo.

Not exactly. You can fill the report, then wait till they tell you what to
install.

I am not currently seeing that.

On one system, I did see that at first. So I removed the “run at startup” selection, and it still seemed to be working. My guess is that it was somehow being started twice. On that system, I later deleted $HOME/.kde4 and other “.name” settings files from the home directory, and did a complete reconfiguration of my desktop. The problem did not on that reconfiguration.

I will give your fix a test run thank you for the information.

Two days into testing and no crashes on wake from sleep.

I believe you are right checking the start at login actually does something like start two copies of Synaptiks.

Thanks for the help.

I’m glad it is working for you. Thanks for posting that update.
