Switching from 15.3 to tumbleweed/15.4

I’ve just realised I’ve posted this in the wrong forum… sorry!!

I use Leap and usually when a new version is released I take it as an opportunity to do a fresh install. This time round however I feel it will be a long arduous task.

Sooo, although I like using Leap it kind of makes sense to switch to Tumbleweed. It seems to be a simple matter of changing the repos to the Tumbleweed repos and doing a

zypper dup

One repo I’m curious about though is “http://download.opensuse.org/update/leap/$releasever/sle/
Should I just disable it or is it used with Tumbleweed?

Or can I easily upgrade to 15.4 the same way when it’s released? I have a few community packages installed needed for my printer and Handbrake. I’m guessing updates might take time to trickle through.

Below are my repos. It’s almost standard. (I tried to attach a screenshot but it seems protondrive doesn’t allow images to be used like that)

Thanks for any help. I should probably just try the switch to Tumbleweed but I’m scared I’ll mess it up so much that I won’t be able to rollback.

Moved it to Install/Boot/Login in the asking for technical help part.

You certainly can Upgrade from 15.3 > 15.4.

I doubt you can from 15.3 > Tumbleweed (but others may have a different view) and need a fresh instal (also you can of course keep user data).

You should really only go to Tumbleweed if you have convinced yourself you have very good reasons for that.

Just days ago I saw in reading recently opened bug reports a suse dev stated upgrade from Leap to TW is supported, but not the reverse - there’s no provision for reversing /usr-move.

There is no corresponding repo for it in TW, and neither for backports. Disable both OK, but better to remove. Your optional repos will need to be changed to TW if existing, otherwise (disabled or) removed.

If it’s me I will just do a clean install.
You still have a choice to retain your /home. Take note of the application
you are using and find out if it is in tumbleweed and add it after tumbleweed is already running.

Just download the latest tumbleweed snapshot iso.

You should have very good reasons before you move from a stable version (e.g. LEAP 15.3 to Tumbleweed) to a rolling release version.
What drives your desire?

It might be better to wait [assuming your “/home” is in a separate partition ] and do an upgrade new system root “/” install to LEAP 15.4 in a month or so. Try that, then if wanted upgrade to Tumbleweed.
Note it is a one-way journey. To go back you would have to completely reinstall a LEAP version.
