I have recently installed opensuse 11.2, initially from the Gnome live CD and set it to automatic set up i.e. no login password. I then downloaded KDE and then went to login-in and started KDE. However, now I cannot work out how to get back to Gnome. I am trying to compare the two. Can anyone help?
Log out. When you get back to the login screen, click your login name. At the bottom of the screen, you will see a little box that will give you a choice of desktop environments to boot to.
If you leave it set to auto login, it will boot to last choice you made.
Explorer that is fantastic, so simple when you know how!.
Could I be checking and ask you a supplementary question? I turned off the desktop folder by accident found a post saying how to turn it back on again but when I did this I got all the folders on my home rather than the icons for programes etc that was there originally. Is it possible to get back to the initial desktop folder?
Open the plasmoid control panel in the top right of your desktop and add Folder View, is what I have been told, but I did the same thing and Folder View is not an option to add back in on mine.:’(
If you mess up your KDE4 desktop, you can delete it, or say just the files relating to Plasma, by finding the files in ‘.kde4’.
You’ll find it recommended to remove “plasma” files on upgrading website if you hit problems with desktop for instance. That’ll demonstrate where to look,if you have trouble finding them.
Hi
Thanks everyone for your help, got back to original by simply clicking onto desktop folder.
Can I ask another quesiton? When I go onto the apllication laucher as I go over applications and they highlight there is a black line or lines that appear across the application below, is this meant to happen? It is very ugly and off putting.
It doesn’t do that on mine. Chances are it is a video driver issue. What video card are you running?
