I initially installed openSuSe 12.1 with GNOME 3 and its an awesome environment, but I’m more of a classical Menu ITT guy. How do I remove GNOME and install KDE?
Thanks!..

Actually, it would be great if I configure out how to add my own apps to this menu system! In the same way in the classical way. How do you edit the menu?

Why remove, add whatever you like. This is not Windows, you can play with
different setups.

HI, thanks for the reply!.. I found the “alacarte” app, but after logging in/out and rebooting it doesn’t my entry.
Any suggesting on how to successfully add a menu item to the gnome menu system?
Alacarte is the menu app. Run it, and it allows you to create entries. BTW, what have you installed that isn’t showing up?
Actually, I was able to add my “menu item” using “Alacarte” after locating it the Gnome menu system. I ran “Alacarte” from the CLI when I tried it first the time, not sure why it didn’t work doing it that way, but everything is fine now…
Awesome environment! Now, trying to disable this annoying “Turn off screen” settings, I set it to 1hour, but some reason it wants to turn off when it wants too, so I just down loaded a Gnome-Presentation-Mode hoping this would disable it.
But, thanks for the reply!..
So are you switching to kde or sticking with gnome
Add kde with the kde pattern in Yast Software Manager

You will need to choose your session at login

Thanks for showing me how to select in that way! Much easier then selecting individual items! But, now that I’ve found out how to add menu items, I can stay with gnome…
There’s also some extensions that will bring “old style” menus to GNOME 3. Take a look at http://extensions.gnome.org
Cool, thanks!
