Switch from X11 to Wayland on headless install?

Hy!

Have here some (remote) installs only reachable via VNC (and ssh) and woud like to test Wayland. Is there a config file I could change to switch to Wayland?

Afterwards I assume I would have to adapt the VNC config to be able to start up the remote desktop (via ssh).

Which DE are you wanting to run as a Wayland compositor?

KDE (at least 10 words needed as a reply, blah, blah, blah)

In the Wayland world, each compositor has to implement its own remote desktop solution. KDE Plasma 6 currently only provides RDP (via KRdp) for Wayland-based desktop sharing. Not designed for headless operation as such - it needs an active local session running.

Are you just wanting to do remote admin as such? If so, Cockpit might meet your needs?

No, use a remote headless machine, full desktop needed. OK, then maybe this was the reason I didn’t switch to Wayland last fall…

Yes, not suitable for your user requirements currently.

Sorry, wrong citation was in previous post.

The right one:

Remote desktop

No headless RDP: https://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=481912

Try to use krdp.
Packaged: krdp6.

That’s for remote desktop sharing. The session needs to be active.
